The Friends of Glasgow Necropolis are amongst Scotland’s first ‘Heritage Angels’ having been named at the inaugural Scottish Heritage Angel Awards.
Heritage volunteers from across Scotland gathered at Edinburgh’s Royal Lyceum Theatre on Monday 28th September as the winners of the very first Scottish Heritage Angel Awards were announced.
The Friends of Glasgow Necropolis were awarded with the Scottish Heritage Angel Award “for Investigating and Recording for their ongoing work and dedication to digitally capture and create a permanent record of some 3,500 graves, memorials and mausolea throughout the 37 acre site”.
The Friends of Glasgow Necropolis are working in partnership with Page \ Park Architects and Nicolaus Copernicus University in Poland. Page/Park is hosting two heritage conservation students from Nicolaus Copernicus University in Poland each year. The students work on Page/Park projects as well as recording the monuments in the Necropolis. Nine out of the Necropolis’ twenty-two compartments have been surveyed.
