| Military Service | According to the Scottish National War Memorial McMinn started his military career in the Black Watch (Private 42290). It is not known which battalion of the Black Watch he served in, nor when he transferred to the Royal Scots. He was not entitled to the 1914-15 Star so he cannot have gone to France until after January 1916. Nothing is known about the details of McMinn’s time at the front but he must have been amongst the casualties sustained on the night of 3/4th May when an attack was made by part of the severely depleted battalion of Royal Scots in order to aid the escape of three companies of 6th King’s Own Scottish Borderers. | |
