Military Service | Kyle enlisted (was conscripted?) on 2nd March 1916. He did not go to the front until 25th July 1917 which suggests he spent some of the intervening period in the reserve but his service records are so badly damaged it is impossible to tell. He joined the 13th Battalion Royal Scots on 10th August 1917. This battalion had been in France since July 1915 as part of 45th Brigade, 15th (Scottish) Division.
