| Military Service | It has been impossible to find any details of Harvey’s military service. In 1914 he was settled in Southern Rhodesia and seems to have enlisted in the Rhodesia Regiment as a private (1471). His Medal Card records his first theatre of war as being German South West Africa in 1915 which fits well with the fact that the 1st Rhodesia Regiment served there under the command of General Botha. Harvey was awarded a commission in the 3rd Battalion of the King’s Own (Royal Lancaster) Regiment on 6th July 1916. This was a reserve battalion and he was attached to the 6th Battalion which had served in Gallipoli 1915, and was in Mesopotamia from Feb 1916. The War Diaries of the Middle East theatres of war have not yet been digitized so it has been impossible to find out any details of Harvey’s service in Mesopotamia. On 11th March 1917 the battalion was amongst first British troops to enter Baghdad. | |
