| Military Service | Foulis enlisted in the Cameron Highlanders as private S12238 and reached the rank of Corporal before being commissioned into the 5th Battalion of the same regiment on 16th May 1915. This battalion was serving in the 26th Brigade, 9th (Scottish) Division. By December 1915 he was commanding a Company and as a result was promoted from Temporary Second Lieutenant to Temporary Captain. The battalion spent much of the first two weeks of the Battle of the Somme in reserve before going into action at Longueval and Waterlot Farm. After a time away from the front the Division returned to the Somme in October and took part in the Battle of the Transloy Ridges. At the time of his death Foulis was commanding ‘D’ Company. | |
