Nothing is known about Bryson’s service except that he originally enlisted in the Lanarkshire Yeomanry as Private 1582 probably sometime in 1916 before transferring to the 9th Cameronians, 9th (Scottish) Division before his death. In 1916 the 9th Division took part in several phases of the Battle of the Somme before moving to the front line near Arras in December.

9th Cameronians war diary for 21st January records that they were stationed in the trenches and “Hostile Trench Mortar activity continued. Our casualties 10 killed and 5 wounded.
